The Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union was chartered in 1965 by employees of St. Joseph's Hospital. Until 1985 the credit union operated from office space rented from the hospital. That year we relocated to our own facility. Since then we have added numerous services and enjoyed exceptional growth. We are now conveniently located at 302 W. Upham Street in Marshfield.
Credit unions primarily engage in consumer lending and residential real estate lending to their members, using deposited funds of members to support the lending activities. Credit unions are subject to state and federal regulations and supervision. Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union was chartered under the laws of the State of Wisconsin. We are directly supervised by the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions - Office of Credit Unions. However, all depository institutions in Wisconsin are required to have FEDERAL deposit insurance to protect members' deposits and so we are also regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an independent agency of the U.S. Government. The NCUA administers the federal insurance fund, NCUSIF, which covers all federal credit unions, and most state-chartered credit unions. No taxpayer money is used for regulating and overseeing Wisconsin credit unions, as all activities of NCUA (and the NCUSIF) and the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions - Office of Credit Unions are funded by credit unions.
